Well. It’s been 3 days since the majority of voting Americans (and the VAST majority of voting white women) actively chose a convicted felon and sexual predator to lead our government over a deeply qualified and competent Black woman. Everything feels deeply, existentially, dreadfully bad.
I actually got the message from our network partner that the feed had gone live ON Election Day, and I texted the links to the producers working closely with me on this podcast, saying “gonna wait a few days to announce this, but it’s live and it’s real!”
Well, it’s been a few days, and all my usual coping strategies haven’t been very effective. I tried getting very drunk, NOT drinking, eating very healthy, eating very UNhealthy, staying in bed, getting out of the house, touching grass, touching the ocean, looking into my dog’s eyes for a long time, crying, not crying, working a lot, not working at all, yelling, picking a TV show from several years ago and binge-watching (Fargo season 1) and helping my mom pick out a bunch of pants.
So instead of waiting to feel better, or for things to become more normal, we’re just gonna do this while we all feel shitty. All this research and un-learning and re-learning I’ve been doing about periods and cramps and medicine makes it clear that even in the best and most stable of times, accurate information and community is hard to come by. And if shits only going to get more chaotic and hostile for people with uteruses, we’re going to need every resource we can get.
So without further ado, here is the CRAMPED art & podcast feeds!
I have two requests:
Subscribe to CRAMPED on whatever podcast app you use (or all of them!). We are releasing episodes weekly starting in February, and the more subscribers we have ahead of time, the more people will immediately be listening when we start releasing episodes, instead of having to slowly build a listenernship from scratch.
Share this podcast feed! Send it to friends, family, acquaintances, post it on whatever socials you live your life on, tell people about it. We have already been facing an uphill battle with internalized, medicalized misogyny - and the political climate isn’t going to make it EASIER to share resources and stories that will help people with uteruses.
And I have a promise. The majority of voting Americans (including a vast majority of voting white women) have made it very clear that they don’t give a shit about the rights, health, and quality of life of people with uteruses. And the thing is….that’s not new. The power-holding majority has NEVER given a true shit about our rights, health, and quality of life, even when they have a uterus themselves. They’ve maybe never yelled it so loudly or so blatantly, but the basic message is the same. So my promise to you is that this podcast (and newsletter) will start yelling more loudly and more blatantly about accurate information and the reasons its so hard to get. It’s going to get quite a bit….cuntier in here. We don’t have the time or extra energy to hedge our language or try to be palatable and make others comfortable.
Onward.
All that you said about the election is true...AND at the same time it is also true that 7 of the 10 abortion rights initiatives got passed, including in deep red states like Montana and Missouri. So there had to be many Trump voters (probably mostly women) who also voted pro-abortion rights. Makes no sense, but there you go
